Coverage and limitations

How to connect Capital One

  1. 1

    Open bank connections

Open Accounts & imports and choose Bank, cash, and debt sync to start a Capital One balance connection.

  2. 2

Review access and find the institution

Read the bank-data consent, then use Add bank account. If you enable investment access, the button reads Add bank and investment accounts. Search for Capital One in the secure connection flow and confirm the United States institution. Follow its sign-in steps and approve the eligible accounts you want to track.

  3. 3

    Check the first import

Return to Accounts & imports. Review selected accounts, their currencies and Last imported time. Checking and savings contribute cash; supported credit-card balances contribute debt.

  4. 4

    Choose spending access

Enable Spending & Budgets only if you want bank transaction history. Check its separate consent and history coverage before treating the imported activity as a complete record.

Check timestamps and update coverage

Compare Capital One's Last imported time with the balance you expect. A Live balance request uses your plan's monthly credits and depends on the institution supplying data. Google Sheets sync and AI reads use stored Fillfolio data; they do not request a new bank observation.

Resolve connection and coverage issues

The expected account is missing

Check that you chose the United States Capital One entry and the intended accounts during authorization. Review the existing connection before adding another one. A listed bank does not guarantee support for each account type.

The connection needs attention

Read the notice in Accounts & imports. Accept the required consent before using the existing connection's reconnect action. Return to check account selection and the next import result.

The total looks wrong

Compare account currency, source time and cash/debt classification. Count an imported balance once. Purchases in Spending & Budgets do not get subtracted again from that bank balance.

Fictional example

Capital One: cash and credit-card debt

Checking
USD 1,250
Savings
USD 2,750
Cash included
USD 4,000
Credit-card debt
USD 400
Contribution to net worth
USD 3,600

Fictional amounts illustrate supported account classifications. Your connection may offer different account types. Cash minus debt gives this contribution; investments elsewhere remain separate.

Questions

Before you connect

What can Fillfolio show from Capital One?

Account labels and types, Checking and savings balances, Credit-card balances. Supported credit-card balances are debt, not cash. Account availability depends on the authorization and data supplied by the institution.

Which plans include bank connections?

Bank connections are included with ULTRA and HYPER for supported U.S. and Canadian accounts only. Supported checking and savings balances contribute cash, while supported credit-card balances appear as debt. Eligibility depends on the institution, country, account type, and permissions available during connection.

Does Fillfolio retrieve bank transaction history?

Balances-only connections retrieve account metadata and balances. On eligible ULTRA/HYPER accounts where Spending & Budgets is enabled, you can separately consent to bank transaction retrieval. Bank spending appears in its own workspace; the existing Transactions page remains investment activity. Available history varies by institution and the original connection window.

Can bank availability change?

Yes. An institution or connection provider can change supported account types, regional coverage, permissions, or authentication requirements. Maintenance and expired authorization can also interrupt updates. A listed institution does not guarantee every account will connect.

Can Fillfolio transact through Capital One?

No. Fillfolio is read-only portfolio tracking software. It cannot trade, transfer, approve, sign, or move money.
